Alois Sandner German Cello Bow, c.1970

Sandner’s father, also named Alois, came from the Bohemian tradition and passed on these bow making techniques to his son. After the Second World War, Alois jnr. settled near Frankfurt and remained there for the rest of his working life, producing both modern and baroque style bows.

The diamond shaped decorations seen on the frog are typical of his work.

This bow balances well on the strings and produces a nice warm tone. It is quite a strong bow, noticeably so in the upper half.

It produces a nicely articulated sound and can be sweet and gentle close to the heel. A lovely bow to use, it would be suited to the advanced or advancing cellist.
